Just like that, Thanksgiving has passed and we have been led into the final, darkest weeks of the year oftentimes referred to as the Persephone Period in gardening.  The Persephone days, named after the Greek goddess of spring growth whose annual return to Hades in winter caused the earth to become barren, is a period of time during the late fall and early winter months when our daylight hours drop to less than ten per day.  Other than the cold winter temperatures, this lack of daylight hours affects the growth of our crops more than anything!  So needless to say, we are in a bit of a holding pattern with all types of our greens.  What limited greens we have available for the next couple of weeks will be going to our CSA.  But we promise there are more coming!!

However, while many folks despise this period of darkness, we love it.  Granted we don't have to drive to and from work by way of the Moon, but it is a time for our bodies to rest, regenerate, and recuperate.  As farmers our bodies are in sync with the rhythm of the seasons, and it feels natural for us to slow down this time of year as we anticipate the Winter Solstice and the celebration of the rebirth of the Sun and reawakening of Nature.  The peace and hope of the season is resounding, and we feel it in every ounce of our beings.

With all of this said, we have BIG NEWS!  Effective this week, we have a new online ordering system that we are so excited about!  We will continue to send out a newsletter on Monday evenings, but we now have an online store that will be open from Monday evening through Thursday evening.  We will still be harvesting each Friday with farm pick-ups on Saturday morning from 9 a.m. until noon.  Our online store is located at:

Here you will see photos and prices of items that can be added to your cart.  Once you place your order, you will receive a confirmation email.  There is also a place for any special notes.  No payments will be accepted online; cash or check are still the methods of accepted payment at the time of pick-up.  If you have any questions, please send us an email and we'll get back to you right away!  We are hopeful that this system allows for an easier, more efficient shopping experience for you, and that it will save us from spending so much time on the computer, especially in high season, and allow us to spend more time in the field nurturing our plants.

We hope that everyone had a fantastic Thanksgiving holiday and that your bellies and hearts are still full from all of the good food and love you were surrounded by.  Thank you for your continued support of our farm and local, organic agriculture.  It is our great pleasure and honor to be growing food for you.

In gratitude, Melissa & Cale
